Los Altos High School has got it together: an entire week of writers descending on English classes and meeting with students and getting them closer to understanding what happens behind the scenes – where we get our ideas, how we get them out, what happens next… Could I pass for a high school student so I can eavesdrop on the other (read: big name) writers? Perhaps…
I’m thrilled that VEE is being taught in a “Politics and Literature” class at Pomona!
Instead of just sitting around in sweatpants all day, I get to dress up, get on a plane, and talk to college students.
Not a bad gig, this being a writer thing.

If you’re not already, it’s time to get on board with supporting your local bookstore!
I will be at Kepler’s (with a slew of other local writers) helping to hand-sell books – and recommend my own personal faves – on this important day.
Get your holiday shopping done, and feel good about the money you spend. Win-win. Period.
P.S. An autographed book is a super special gift – check out http://www.indiebound.org/indie-store-finder to find an indie bookstore near you, and then check that store’s website for info on what authors will be there on Indies First Day.

It’s book fair week! There’s no better time to sit down with a group of kids to talk about reading and writing.

When faced with a classroom of high-level snow sport athletes, what do I do?
Perhaps there’s a link between writing and ice hockey. Working on it.

Time to revisit old haunts and meet current students! Leading a writing workshop and discussion with 8th and 9th graders.
Do I dare tell them about my wild fourth grade escapades?

Linden Tree Books in Los Altos
Linden Tree recently won a national contest from Macmillan. The prize is a spot on the Fierce Reads tour with authors Marissa Meyer (Lunar Chronicles–CINDER, SCARLET, CRESS and the upcoming FAIREST), and authors Niki Kelly, Gennifer Albin, and Jessica Brody. They’re the only store in California on the tour, so I expect it will be very exciting and fun with lots of teenage girls and fantasy fans!
I’m working on narrowing down all the questions I want to ask them. Feel free to send me yours!
Fierce Reads Linden Tree-2
Looking forward to a morning of fun with some 7th grade classes.
The plan, as usual, includes lots of writing, sharing, and laughing. Being a writer rocks.
4:00 pm, at Linden Tree Books in Los Altos (http://www.lindentreebooks.com/)
A panel of YA writers discussing their favorite summer reads!
Featuring the amazing Dana Reinhardt (We Are The Goldens) and Katherine Longshore (Brazen). And, of course, I’ll be there too.

5-7 p.m. at Books Inc Palo Alto
What better way to celebrate California Bookstore Day (which, honestly, should be every day) than to get together with a bunch of writers and readers at one of my favorite local bookstores? Refreshments, browsing, chatting, and celebrating a deep love of the written word. There’ll be a gaggle of local authors and fellow book-lovers. Stop in!
